Families

Private Trips: All ages welcome.*

Public Trips

  • Intensity levels 1-2: All ages are welcome.*
  • Intensity levels above 2, but total trip distance less than 5 miles: Minors at least 10 years of age are welcome.*
  • All hikes over 5 miles: Minors at least 14 years of age are welcome.*

* Minors must be accompanied by an adult on all trips.

Trip difficulty is largely determined by an individual's experience and overall fitness.  You know your child best!  If we can answer any questions to help you determine whether a particular trip is suitable for your child, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Pets

We love furry friends.  We also understand that not everyone does, and some people are allergic, which can create a very unpleasant experience.  Additionally, there are some locations where pets are not allowed.

If you would like to bring a pet, you must contact us ahead of time.  If we can accommodate your pet, we will!  If not, we encourage you to register for a private trip, in which you would be welcome to bring your dog, cat, or pet Eastern Fence Lizard (as long as they were all leashed, per State Parks policy).   No pets will be permitted on a trip without prior approval.

In the very rare case WE must cancel your reservation due to unforeseen circumstances… (Hurricane Sandy, perhaps?)

You will promptly receive a full refund for your trip (and likely a consolation prize).

Adverse Weather

Every day is a great day to be outdoors!  Really!  …but not necessarily outdoors on top of an exposed mountain.  A little rain won’t bother us (and might even be welcome on a hot day!), but we will cancel day trips when:

  • thunderstorms are highly likely or imminent.
  • it’s clear that strong rains will prevail the entirety of the day, no matter how many fingers, toes, and knees we cross.
  • it’s below 45-degrees Fahrenheit and raining.
  • the road conditions are hazardous.

How we will notify you

If we decide to cancel the trip for everyone’s safety, we will send you a cancellation notice by e-mail and text at least 12 hours in advance of your trip.  If we do not hear from you that you received the message, we will call you up to 2 hours prior to your trip.  Please confirm with us that you received the message!  (We really don’t want to wake you up at 6:30am for a canceled 8:30am trip if you’ve already seen it’s been canceled, so please let us know you got the message!)

How you can notify us

Call or text (210) 724-9611 between 8am – 6pm any day of the week or send an e-mail to kali@HikeNY.com.

*Special rain policy for Breakneck Ridge

The first ¾-mile of Breakneck Ridge is exposed rock and extremely steep.  These conditions make the scramble very dangerous when the rocks are wet.

On lightly rainy days, Hike New York reserves the right to delay the trip by up to 1 hour or take an alternate, safer route which still affords epic views, but does not involve extensive rock scrambling. Of course, if the Adverse Weather Conditions are met, we will instead cancel the trip (see Cancellations above).

Legal Form

All trip participants must fill out a trip legal form prior to their trip.  This form includes a liability waiver, photography/personal likeness release, and emergency medical information form.  Please print and bring a signed copy with you when you meet your guide at Check-In.
